Thomas J. Snyder, Esq. is a Founding Partner of Snyder Kenney & Mercado, LLC, bringing more than 30 years of litigation experience across all areas of family law, as well as civil and estate litigation. A seasoned and proven trial attorney, Tom has successfully represented clients in hundreds of matters through trial, motion practice, and negotiated settlements. Clients rely on his relentless advocacy, strategic insight, and unwavering personal attention.
Tom is widely recognized for his leadership and contributions to the development of New Jersey family law. He received the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Distinguished Legislative Service Award in 2006 for his critical role in shaping the state’s adoption laws. He previously served as Chair for the New Jersey State Bar Associations’ Family Law Executive Committee. He also served as a member of the New Jersey State Bar Associations’ Nominating Committee. His work has contributed to significant legislative reforms, including the statutory recognition of Irreconcilable Differences as a cause of action for divorce, amendments to New Jersey’s Alimony Statute, and the passage of the New Jersey Marriage Equality Act.
A respected voice in the legal community, Tom has been interviewed on television and radio regarding emerging family law issues, including appearances on NJN’s Due Process, WNYC, and WWRL-1600 AM. He has extensive training through the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and has served as a member and barrister of the Central New Jersey and Central Jersey Family Law Inns of Court. In recognition of his commitment to mentoring young attorneys, Tom was named “Mentor of the Year” in 2019 by the New Jersey Law Journal.
Tom earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Albany and his Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law. He began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Peter B. Cooper in Essex County, where he gained foundational experience in family, domestic violence, criminal, and civil matters.
He is an active member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Morris County Bar Association, Union County Bar Association, and Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey.
